Gigabyte Z68A-D3H-B3/Intel i7-2600K/Kingston 4GB*4/Hitachi 500GB HDD and Samsung 2TB. GPT: Hitachi 500 GB: 300MB(OEM),90MB(System),128MB(MSR),128GB(Primary- Windows 8),128GB(Primary) I have installed windows 8 on the fourth partition with 128 GB and I get error when I try Installing windows 7 professional 64 bit on fifth partition with 128 GB, Error when highlighting the partition: 'Windows cannot be installed to this disk the selected disk is of the GPT Partition Style' Is it possible to push the installer further??
Hi Tracy, I did unplug my 2TB HDD as I have valuable data. This time I used only the 500GB HDD. When I install using MBR, it installs smooth, but when I use GPT I am not able to pass the install screen. Boot into UEFI: USB with windows 7 2. At the installation screen pressed Shift+F10 to open command prompt 3. Used Diskpart DISKPART > select disk 0 DISKPART > clean DISKPART > convert gpt DISKPART > create partition efi size=100 DISKPART > format fs=fat32 quick label=system DISKPART > create partition msr size=128 DISKPART > create partition primary size=131072 DISKPART > format fs=NTFS quick label=C DISKPART > assign letter=c DISKPART > exit exit And in the installation screen did an rescan to check the partitions and seems good. But when I highlight the Primary Partition to install i receive the same error.
'Windows cannot be installed to this disk the selected disk is of the GPT Partition Style' But I am successful If I install windows 8. Hi Tracy, Hurray, it works like a charm, i never tried this with dvd. I guess was the issue installing from usb hdd. Points on the way. Now I have an other issue My 500GB Disk is GPT Disk 1 My 2TB disk is MBR - Disk 0 I added my 2TB disk and now my 500GB Disk changed its order from Disk 0 to Disk 1.

Hi, Try to burn the ISO image to DVD and install from it. The installation from USB may not successful due to the hardware drivers. Tracy Cai TechNet Community Support Dear Tracy and Originator, I have a Gigabyte GA-880GA-UD3H Ver 3.1 w Award Bios(unknown version, cannot get Gigabyte to respond with info), AMD Phenom II 6 cores, 8GB Kingston DDR3 RAM, HGST 1TB HD, Hitachi 1TB HD, Toshiba 1 TB HD, Seagate 250GB HD.
The MoBo does have EFI but not full UEFI, it will read and create GPT but now Windows software will install to it using GPT, not even the various versions of the eval software including all variations of Win 10. Partial scenario: I have tried loading an ISO using MBR(system refused to read GPT flash) with Win 8.1, which in a later response down below did work for that guy. It did not for me. The DVD is declared as being EFI in the BIOS but it would not read an ISO of Win 8.1 on GPT 8GB flash drive at all. However it did go through all steps with a MBR flash drive though flash drive was seen by BIOS as USB-HD0: USB 2.0 flash driv. It goes through all the steps in the DISKPART info later defined except the last, which was to 'assign drive=c', the previous step set it as 'C'. I need to have the system accept GPT for Windows operating systems so I can do extreme testing with the larger hard drives and not be confined to 3 or 4TB or 4 primary partitions.
I have looked at new MoBos but found none that offered me the things I value so much as the Gigabyte 3DH and my Phenom II with 6 cores. The system can read the flash drive with GPT to identify it but will not read in the data at load time. Do you or anyone have any suggestions???? Any and all on issue replies/responses welcomed. Thanks to everyone, David.
