I believe that the activation for KMS is automatic when installing the server, so I'm not sure what my options are. I purchased Server 2016 Standard Licenses for all my servers that will be used. However, these are 2012 R2 servers. I am not having issues with my Office 2010 KMS licensing, that is working as expected. The KMS server was not in place when I started this project, so when I built this Golden Image, and it went through it's auto check, there were no KMS Host servers in my environment to check against anyways. Is it only available when a machine is first joined to domain and booted, or can I manually enter that key? I'm not sure what Key to enter on the Golden Image server itself. You would use the GVLK key on the image. That would activate against your activated KMS server.

Note that before the KMS server will activate clients it must pass the 25 activations mark. Just for the sake of clarity - KMS is not a license type. It's a method of activation used for volume license products.

If those aren't already in your VLSC you should contact VLSC support and ask for them.

They are free, because as you said it has downgrade rights, but they generally don't provide them unless you ask. However, if for some reason they say no, you can use any 2012R2 keys.
