I host servers for several communities and we've recently had some complains from them that they can't join their call of duty 4: Modern Warfare server. The problem with the servers is that the clients time out when joining. We've already tried all troubleshooting steps (e.g. Disable firewall, check config, check files) We haven't made any changes to our standard configuration, yet suddenly this issue started happening. Even with the standard config which worked fine before. To prove it's not a networking issue: 1. Coreldraw graphics suite x4 full dvd 2008 pc iso zone.

The servers are showing in gametracker as up and running. (can query) 2. Replacing the server iw3mp.exe with a 'cracked' executable makes the player able to join the server perfectly fine. We've noticed that some servers that have been running for a while are working fine (they are hosted on the same node).
But once restarted they stop working. I'm not sure what is causing this issue, I think something might be wrong on Activision's end. We've tried hosting servers elsewhere and also with some game server hosting companies, which also have the same problem. We've also had similar problems in the past where servers wouldn't appear in the server list for a while. This would resolve it self automatically after keeping the server shutdown for a while (few hours or days) and then starting it up again.
If it's not an issue on Activisions end then I think there might be a port conflict, but I couldn't fine any. We obviously use unique ports for each server and IP with the command line argument: +set net_ip $[Service.IpAddress] +set net_port $[Service.GamePort] I think if this is the case the communication with the master server/cd key validation server is not using a unique port.
But I don't know how to change that (there is only one command line argument for the servers port usage). That's really stupid. I asked their twitter account, but they don't seem to have a clue about this. I linked them to this forum post and they still asked me basic questions and now they don't respond at all. Anyway, thanks for letting us know. At least I know it's not an issue on our end.
You need to download The COD4 Cracked Files, 'iw3mp.exe' and 'iw3sp.exe'. Then you need to copy them into your Call of Duty 4 Folder.
I hope they will resolve this soon and enable some monitoring and redundancy so they can fix these kinds of problems quickly and reduce the chance of it happening in the first place. It's really annoying how broken this game's server list is.
